Communication Tools and Management

Communication is interactive by its nature, at its most basic level, a conversation. Technology can be a tool to assist this process, but to often, it fails to do this. NewSof has the experience to encourage the intimacy of people conversing and learning as individuals and groups. A MoM community is designed to create a place, whether virtual or real, where people with similar concerns, needs, background, or interests choose to interact. In an online environment, a MoM must be more than a than a grab bag of interactivity tools and applications to be effective. A physical community is more than buildings, streets, and wires and a virtual community requires more than functionality. Along with infrastructure, a community needs the people skills to manage them.

Dave Ulrich identifies the following practices as significant contributors to creating and building stronger communities in a world where proximity is no longer the defining issue of association.

	A strong and distinct identity with clear rules of inclusion. A reason to visit.
	Sharing information across boundaries. Moving beyond location to meaning.
	Serial reciprocity. Giving to the next person in need without expectation of direct payback.
	Create and sustain values by using symbols, myths, and stories. Information is never enough.
	Manage enough similarity to feel familiar. It is always about the people and context.

Community starts with people and how they view their world. From here we build the content, community management and technology.
